Occupy Wall Street is hitting the highway.
A small group of protesters from Zuccotti Park packed their bags and prepared to begin a two-week march to Washington D.C. Wednesday.
At least a dozen demonstrators who have been camped out in Zuccotti Park said they were headed to Capitol Hill on foot to take their message against corporate greed to the politicians.
They hope to pick up supporters in towns and cities along the way, before arriving on Nov. 27.
“We wanted to connect the occupations,” said Michael Glazer, an unemployed actor from Chicago who helped organize the highway hike.
“We also want to bring it to rural communities who may not be able to get to us.”
“We are going to let the politicians know we are watching them,” he added.
“This isn't business as usual any more. We won't stand for it anymore.”
Glazer, 33, said he arrived in New York City one month ago to join Occupy Wall Street and soon met two other protesters who wanted to march on D.C.
“It seemed like the perfect idea to fuse the groups,” Glazer explained.
“People call me the Forest Gump of politics.”
They will begin by taking the ferry to Jersey City, then marching to Elizabeth, N.J., where they will spend their first night.
They are equipped with sleeping bags and tents, and hope to cover at least 20 miles a day on their route, which will pass through Trenton, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Baltimore and Laurel before ending in the nation’s capital.
“We’ve been waiting for something like this - it’s awesome,” said Glazer.
“We are prepared.”
