Drivers can expect lots of bridge work this weekend: The Brooklyn-bound south inner roadway of the Williamsburg Bridge will be closed 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday. FROM THE MAILBAG
Dear Gridlock Sam,
Are cars allowed to park in front of a church on Sunday morning during services even though there are No Parking signs?
Val via e-mail
Dear Val,
Technically, no: The No Parking signs are there to keep curbsides in front of church entrances free for emergency services and to provide drop-offs and pickups for church goers' cars, limousines, and hearses. But, in the past, when the NYPD enforced these rules there was such a hue and cry from church leaders and elected officials with media attention that the city backed down. So now, the NYPD, unofficially, doesn't enforce these rules unless the church is in accord.
