Occupies Unite to Spread the Movement Westward

Occupy Redlands and Occupy Riverside joined the newly formed Occupy Ontario in protest.
The Occupy Movement is spreading throughout the Inland Empire.
On Saturday, it officially arrived in Ontario for members of the month-old Occupy Ontario. Its members protested in front of Bank of America on the very busy Euclid Avenue near G Street.
About 40 people stood waving signs as honking cars passed every few minutes. And with them were members of the Redlands and Riverside occupy groups.
“This is a visibility rally,” said Nathan Chagolla, member of Occupy Ontario. “Initially this was only for this city. But then the other occupies caught word of it and joined in too. It’s amazing. We’re so happy to have them.”
Redlands, which has not only spread their message in their own neighborhoods -- marching through the downtown and local retailers -- but they have helped other Occupy chapters get going.
“The fear is if you’re not supporting each other, the movements individually maybe die out,” said Sean McDuffee, Occupy Redlands committee member. “The problems that maybe you’ve already faced or that you’ve already dealt with that they haven’t yet, you have that experience you can share.”
About 10 Redlands members attended Saturdays event.
Chagolla and fellow Occupy Ontario members Josue Gonzalez say they hope their community will embrace the movement as they have in Redlands.
Gonzalez said he was inspired by visiting Occupy Los Angeles in support and to learn.
“That was amazing,” Gonzalez said. “I learned the power of unity. Together we can transform the system.”
